Which online baby products stores do AI answers recommend in Australia?

What we found

• Baby Bunting was named in 7 of the 10 answers, more than any other brand.
• The three most-named names took 22% of all mentions, across 42 different names in total.
• 31 of the 42 names appeared in only one answer, so being named once is not the same as being the default recommendation.
• The most-cited source was shopback.com.au (5 of 10 answers). Third-party sites such as findershopping.com.au, motherschoice.com.au, productreview.com.au were among the most cited, which means what other sites say about a business shapes the answer, not only its own website.

Why this matters

When someone asks an AI assistant who to choose, the answer usually names a short list. Businesses on that list get the enquiry; the rest are not considered. The names come from what the engine finds and trusts on the web: the business's own pages, and what directories, reviews and media say about it.

Method

Questions were written to sound like real buyers and did not name any business. Each was asked once through Perplexity sonar (live web search, AU location) on 10 October 2026. Names were read from each answer by a language model and checked against the answer text; directories, review sites, government bodies and media were not counted as names. Answers change from day to day, so this is a snapshot, not a ranking. Inclusion here is not an endorsement by Search Insights.
